Extendable Dining Table Collection

Most Singapore dining rooms have to do two very different jobs. On a regular weekday evening, you need a table that seats two or four without overwhelming the room. Then Chinese New Year arrives, or your partner's family comes over for Hari Raya, and you suddenly need seating for eight or ten. An extendable dining table solves this honestly — it doesn't ask you to choose between daily practicality and hosting generosity. You get both, from the same piece of furniture.
Our extendable dining table collection covers the range of extension mechanisms, materials, and sizes that work best in Singapore homes: from compact HDB dining rooms to open-plan condo living areas. This guide explains how to read the differences between designs so you can find the right fit for your household and your home's proportions.
How extension mechanisms actually differ
Not all extending tables open the same way, and the mechanism affects both how convenient the table is to use and how sturdy it feels once extended.
Butterfly leaf extensions
Butterfly leaf extensions are the most common in our collection. A hidden leaf folds into the centre of the table and unfolds as you pull the two halves apart — no separate storage required.
For everyday users who extend the table regularly, this is the most practical option. The mechanism is self-contained, which means no hunting for a stored leaf when guests arrive at the door.
Drop-in leaf extensions
Drop-in leaf extensions use a removable panel that slots into the centre gap when you separate the tabletop. These tend to allow larger extensions — some models in our collection extend to seat ten comfortably — and they're well-suited to households that host occasionally rather than frequently.
The trade-off is that the leaf needs to be stored somewhere between uses.
Pull-out extensions
Pull-out extensions slide additional surface area from beneath the tabletop. These work particularly well in smaller dining rooms where you rarely need the full extension: the process is quick, the footprint change is gradual, and the mechanism is very low-effort.
When you visit our showroom, our team can open and close each mechanism in front of you. It takes about 30 seconds to know which one feels right for your household.
Choosing the right base material and tabletop finish

The table's base determines long-term durability. Its surface determines how much maintenance your household can reasonably commit to.
Sintered stone tabletops
For families with young children — or for anyone who sets the table with minimal ceremony — a sintered stone tabletop, a compressed ceramic material fired at high temperature, offers exceptional scratch and heat resistance.
You can place a hot pot directly on it, wipe it clean, and it holds its finish for years. The visual effect is calm and considered: many sintered stone options in our collection have a quiet stone-like texture that suits both contemporary and transitional interiors.
Solid wood and wood-veneer tabletops
Solid wood and wood-veneer tabletops bring warmth into a dining room that sintered stone and glass cannot quite replicate. Walnut and oak finishes are especially popular with Singapore homeowners who lean towards Japandi-influenced or Scandinavian-influenced spaces.
These surfaces require coasters for hot items and occasional wiping with appropriate wood-care products — a modest commitment in exchange for a dining room that feels genuinely welcoming.
Tempered glass extensions
Tempered glass extensions remain practical in compact dining rooms because the visual transparency reduces the perceived weight of the table when extended. They clean easily and pair well with metal bases.
The main consideration is fingerprints, which show readily on glass — something worth acknowledging honestly if your household uses the dining table as a work surface between meals.
What size should your extendable table be?
The most useful framing is this: size the table for daily use first, then check that the extended length suits your hosting needs.
For 3-room HDB dining areas
In a 3-room HDB dining area, a table that seats four when closed — typically around 120–130 cm in length — and extends to seat six is a very practical configuration.
You're not compressing the daily living space, and you have a meaningful hosting extension without the extended table feeling forced into the room.
For 4-room and 5-room HDB households
For 4-room and 5-room HDB households, a starting length of 140–160 cm seating four to six is more proportional.
Extended, many of these models reach 200–220 cm, which accommodates eight comfortably — enough for the extended family without requiring an open-plan dining area.
For condo dining rooms
Condo dining rooms vary significantly by development, so the more useful reference is always your own floor plan measurements.
A general rule our showroom team applies: leave at least 90 cm of clearance on each side of the extended table for chairs to be pushed back and people to circulate. At 75 cm, circulation becomes uncomfortable. Below that, it becomes genuinely inconvenient for guests.
Bring your floor plan dimensions when you visit. Our team at 5 Ubi Link will work through the numbers with you before you commit to anything.
Pairing your table with the right dining chairs
An extendable table needs chairs that work at both its closed and extended widths — and that store sensibly when not in use.
Stackable chairs
Stackable chairs are worth considering seriously if you'll regularly host large groups. You can keep four chairs at the table daily and bring four more from storage when you extend.
This is a more practical approach than keeping eight chairs permanently deployed in a room that doesn't have the footprint for it.
Upholstered dining chairs
Upholstered dining chairs add comfort for longer meals, which matters for Deepavali open houses or Christmas gatherings where the family lingers for two to three hours after eating.
Fabric seats in mid-grey, oatmeal, and warm taupe tones are flexible enough to sit alongside most tabletop finishes. Faux leather is an easier-care option if you have young children at the table.
Bench seating
Bench seating along one side of an extendable table is a quietly effective space solution. A bench seats more people per linear centimetre than individual chairs, handles the crowd when the table is extended, and tucks close to the table when not needed.
It's a combination our showroom team recommends frequently for families with two or more children.

Come and see our extendable dining table collection in person
Our extendable dining table collection is displayed across multiple configurations at our 5 Ubi Link showroom — extended and closed, so you can see the actual footprint difference rather than estimating from dimensions alone.
Rated 4.8 stars by more than 2,733 verified Google reviewers, our showroom team's most consistent feedback is straightforward: customers feel the difference between mechanisms and materials when they visit in person.
A photograph shows proportion. Standing at the table shows whether it's the right height for your household, whether the extension feels solid, and whether the surface finish suits the way your family actually eats and lives.
We're open daily from 11:30 AM to 9 PM, including weekends and public holidays. Bring your floor plan and a rough idea of how many seats you need at peak. If you have questions before you visit, WhatsApp us at +65 6518 9649 — we usually reply within the hour during showroom hours.
Finding the right fit for your home
An extendable dining table earns its place in most Singapore homes because it matches the rhythm of how we actually live here — quiet midweek evenings and generous weekend gatherings, sometimes at the same table a week apart.
The right choice depends on four things:
- How often you'll extend it, which determines the mechanism
- How much daily maintenance you'll commit to, which determines the surface
- Your floor plan's actual dimensions, which determines the closed and extended sizes
- How many you'll seat at peak, which determines the extension depth
Get those four aligned and the rest of the decision — finish, base style, leg shape — follows naturally.
If you'd like a second opinion on how a specific model works in your space, our team is here. No pressure, no timeline. Come by when you're ready.
