What size should your extendable table be?

The most useful framing is this: size the table for daily use first, then check that the extended length suits your hosting needs.

For 3-room HDB dining areas

In a 3-room HDB dining area, a table that seats four when closed — typically around 120–130 cm in length — and extends to seat six is a very practical configuration.

You're not compressing the daily living space, and you have a meaningful hosting extension without the extended table feeling forced into the room.

For 4-room and 5-room HDB households

For 4-room and 5-room HDB households, a starting length of 140–160 cm seating four to six is more proportional.

Extended, many of these models reach 200–220 cm, which accommodates eight comfortably — enough for the extended family without requiring an open-plan dining area.

For condo dining rooms

Condo dining rooms vary significantly by development, so the more useful reference is always your own floor plan measurements.

A general rule our showroom team applies: leave at least 90 cm of clearance on each side of the extended table for chairs to be pushed back and people to circulate. At 75 cm, circulation becomes uncomfortable. Below that, it becomes genuinely inconvenient for guests.

An extendable table needs chairs that work at both its closed and extended widths — and that store sensibly when not in use.

Stackable chairs

Stackable chairs are worth considering seriously if you'll regularly host large groups. You can keep four chairs at the table daily and bring four more from storage when you extend.

Upholstered dining chairs
