Singapore Bedsheet Sizes Explained: A Mattress Owner's Guide

Most of these problems trace back to one thing: Singapore mattress dimensions are not the same as American, European, or Australian sizes โ€” and most bedsheet packaging does not make this obvious.

This guide explains the four standard Singapore mattress sizes, the pocket depths that determine whether a fitted sheet stays on, and how to read bedsheet packaging so you buy correctly the first time.

What are the standard mattress sizes in Singapore?

Singapore uses four widely recognised mattress sizes. These are the dimensions you will find across our mattress collection and at most local furniture retailers:

  • Single: 91cm ร— 190cm (sometimes listed as 91 ร— 200cm on newer models)
  • Super Single: 107cm ร— 190cm (occasionally 107 ร— 200cm)
  • Queen: 152cm ร— 190cm
  • King: 182cm ร— 190cm (some manufacturers offer 183 ร— 190cm)

The length of 190cm is the most common standard in Singapore. A handful of imported mattresses and newer local models run to 200cm โ€” worth checking if you are buying sheets for a recently purchased mattress from ourย bed frame collection, as a 190cm-length sheet on a 200cm mattress will leave the foot of the bed exposed.

Notice what is absent from this list: the American โ€œCalifornia Kingโ€ (183 ร— 213cm) and the European โ€œDoubleโ€ (135 ร— 190cm). These sizes exist in Singaporeโ€™s market through grey imports and some international brands, but they are not the local standard. If your sheets are labelled for any of these non-standard sizes, they will not fit a Singapore-standard mattress correctly.

How Singapore sizes compare to international ones

This is where most of the confusion originates.

A Queen mattress in the United States measures 153 ร— 203cm โ€” nearly identical in width to a Singapore Queen but 13cm longer. American Queen sheets will technically fit a Singapore Queen mattress in terms of width, but the extra length means the fitted sheet has too much fabric at the foot, causing bunching.

More problematically, an American King measures 193 ร— 203cm โ€” noticeably wider and longer than a Singapore King at 182 ร— 190cm. American King sheets on a Singapore King mattress will sag and slip.

Australian sizes differ again. An Australian Queen runs 153 ร— 203cm, while an Australian King is 183 ร— 203cm. The width is close to a Singapore King, but the extra 13cm in length creates the same excess-fabric problem.

If you are buying sheets from overseas retailers, converting sizes is not enough โ€” you need the exact centimetre dimensions, not just the size label.

Why pocket depth matters as much as the mattress size

Fitted sheets are sized in two dimensions: the flat mattress footprint and the pocket depth โ€” the measurement of fabric that wraps around the sides and tucks under the mattress.

A standard fitted sheet in Singapore typically offers a pocket depth of 25โ€“30cm. This works for most basic spring or foam mattresses with a standard height of 20โ€“25cm.

Pillow-top and plush-top mattresses

Pillow-top and plush-top mattresses add 5โ€“8cm to the mattress height. A Dr. Maxis Paiza Gold or comparable hotel-grade mattress with a comfort layer on top can reach 28โ€“34cm in total height.

A standard 25cm-depth fitted sheet simply will not reach. You will need a deep-pocket fitted sheet with a 35โ€“40cm pocket depth.

Mattresses with toppers

Mattress toppers compound this further. If you have added a 5โ€“8cm latex or memory foam topper to your existing mattress, your effective mattress height increases accordingly.

Deep-pocket fitted sheets with a 35โ€“40cm pocket depth are the practical choice for any topped mattress setup.

When buying fitted sheets, always check the listed pocket depth on the packaging โ€” not just the size label. โ€œQueen Fitted Sheetโ€ tells you the footprint. The pocket depth tells you whether it will stay on overnight.

Reading bedsheet packaging in Singapore

Most bedsheet sets sold locally are packaged with three measurements or descriptors. Here is how to read them.

The size label

Single, Super Single, Queen, or King. This matches the mattress footprint and is generally straightforward.

The pocket depth

This is the detail most buyers skip.

Look for terms such as:

  • โ€œDeep pocketโ€ (usually 35cm+)
  • โ€œStandard pocketโ€ (usually 25โ€“28cm)
  • โ€œFits mattresses up to 28cmโ€
  • โ€œSuitable for pillow-top mattressesโ€

Thread count

Thread count is commonly listed on mid-range to higher-end sheets.

A thread count of 200โ€“300 in a cotton percale weave gives a crisp, cool feel well-suited to Singaporeโ€™s year-round humidity.

A thread count above 400 in a sateen weave offers a softer, slightly warmer feel โ€” comfortable when the air-conditioning is running but potentially warm without it.

Neither is objectively better. It depends on your sleep temperature and bedroom habits.

Fabric type

Common fabric types in Singapore include:

  • Cotton percale
  • Cotton sateen
  • Microfibre
  • Bamboo-derived viscose
  • Tencel blends

For humid nights without air-conditioning, natural-fibre weaves tend to breathe better.

Microfibre is more affordable and durable through repeated washing, but traps heat more readily.

Tencel and bamboo blends sit somewhere in the middle โ€” moisture-wicking and breathable at a moderate price point.

Common bedsheet-buying mistakes and how to avoid them

Buying sheets before confirming mattress dimensions

Measure your mattress โ€” length, width, and height โ€” before shopping. Do not rely on the size label alone if your mattress was purchased overseas or is an older model with non-standard dimensions.

Ignoring pillow-top height

If you can visibly see a raised comfort layer on your mattress, you almost certainly need a deep-pocket fitted sheet.

A standard pocket depth will feel tight and may pop off at the corners after a nightโ€™s sleep.

Assuming all Queen sheets are equal

A sheet set labelled โ€œQueenโ€ by an overseas brand may be cut for American Queen dimensions (153 ร— 203cm), not Singapore Queen (152 ร— 190cm).

The difference in length sounds minor but creates visible excess fabric at the foot.

Buying a set without checking all included dimensions

Some imported sets mix an American Queen fitted sheet with flat sheet dimensions closer to a King.

Read each pieceโ€™s dimensions individually if buying from overseas platforms.

A practical size-selection guide

Single and Super Single beds

These are common in childrenโ€™s rooms and smaller HDB bedrooms.

Standard Singapore-sized sheets are widely available, but confirm the pocket depth if the mattress is thicker than 20cm.

Queen beds

Queen beds are the most common size for master bedrooms across HDB 4-room and 5-room flats, as well as condominiums.

Singapore Queen sheets fit correctly. If you have a hotel-grade or plush-top mattress, choose deep-pocket sheets.

King beds

King beds are popular in larger master bedrooms in 5-room HDB flats, executive maisonettes, and landed homes.

Confirm that sheets are specifically sized for Singapore King (182cm width), not American King (193cm width). The 11cm difference is noticeable at the sides.

If you are still working through your bedroom setup and have not settled on a mattress, ourย mattress collectionย lists full dimensions on every product page so you can confirm the exact measurements before buying sheets.

A bedside table collection scaled to your mattress height is worth considering at the same time, since mattress height directly affects how usable your bedside surface is.Woman measuring mattress dimensions on a wooden bed frame to choose the correct bedsheet size in Singapore

One more thing: sheet sets vs. separates

Most Singapore retailers sell bedsheets as sets: one fitted sheet, one flat sheet, and two pillowcases. This works for the majority of buyers.

However, if you run warm at night and prefer to sleep without a flat sheet, buying separates gives you more fitted sheets โ€” which are the piece that wears out fastest through washing.

Fitted sheets take more mechanical stress than flat sheets and fade faster. Keeping two to three fitted sheets in rotation for every one flat sheet is a practical way to extend the life of your bedding overall.

Across the homes we have helped furnish, the most common bedding complaint is not the thread count or the weave โ€” it is the fitted sheet that does not stay on. Get the pocket depth right and the rest tends to follow.
